Museum Tours

Dousman Stagecoach Inn Museum
1075 Pilgrim Parkway, Brookfield, WI

Costumed docent give tours of the historic Dousman Stagecoach Inn Museum from May through October on the first and third Sunday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm except on federal holidays.

On the Dousman Stagecoach Inn Museum tour, visitors will step back in time! They will:

  • See beautiful artifacts of historic interest

  • Hear interesting stories about the families who lived at the Inn and the travelers who stayed there
  • View a special exhibit on display in the ballroom

     
  • See an interesting collection of old photos of

           Brookfield and Elm Grove.

In addition, visitors will see interesting outbuildings
such as:

  • Wagon/ Blacksmith Shop

  • Smoke House
  • Ice House

  • Old Woodside School bell tower

At the conclusion of the tour, visitors can purchase gifts, cookbooks and books on local history at the log/frame Donaldson Visitors Center and Gift Shop.

Walking Tours

Walking Tour of Historic Elm Grove

Friday, September 10, 2010

Area residents and families are invited to join other history buffs in an informative walk through the Village of Elm Grove led by local historian Tom Ramstack** on Friday, September 10, 2010.

Come and learn about the people who lived or worked in Elm Grove during its earlier years. Find out about:

  • Great Grandpa 'Peg Leg' Frank and the Angelis
  • Lena Nass and the Outhouse
  • Captain George Gebhardt and the Schlitz Palm Garden
  • The Fighting Mitchell Boys and the Railroad
  • Old Yahkup and Grease Beer

Listen to other light hearted "True Life" stories and learn about the interesting history of Elm Grove.

The walking tour, which will be held rain or shine, will begin promptly at 6:00 pm and last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Individuals wishing to take the tour are asked to park and gather at the Elm Grove Park and Shop where the tour will begin and conclude.

The fees to take the tour  are:

$5:00 per Person        $12:00 per Family

Proceeds benefit the Elmbrook Historical Society.

**Mr. Ramstack is the author of two books Images of America Brookfield and Elm Grove and Brookfield, A Fine and Fertile Place, a two volume history of Elm Grove and Brookfield. He is a special education teacher at Alexander Hamilton High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

You are invited to spend an afternoon at the Dousman Stagecoach Inn Museum!  Learn about local history, tour the Stagecoach Inn, enjoy a snack, bake biscuit or cookies in an 1800's kitchen and play historic games. 

Cost:  $5.00 per child  Chaperones are admitted free.

            The group minimum fee is $50.00.

Tours are given from May through October, on Wednesday or Sunday afternoons.
