The Porcelain Treasures

of Paris:1860-1910

by

Louise Hedrick

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Imagine Paris 150 years ago. Under the rule of Napoleon III,

a new Paris was built with an affluent middle class. During this time, the little girls of Paris played with exquisite porcelain dolls. From 1860 to 1880, these were the poupees of French fashion ladies. From 1880-1890, it was the bebes (young children) or mignonettes (tiny all bisques or "pocket dolls").

Then from 1905 on to the 1950's, the most popular doll in Paris was the beloved "Bleuette." It was the practice then for little girls to have but one doll. Birthdays, Christmas and special events were celebrated with a trip to the many shops that catered to these children for a special ensemble, accessory or perhaps a trunk to store these items.

Join us on Sunday, September 19, 2010 for a trip back to this time to see a collection of beautiful antique dolls characteristic of this 50 year period. Also displayed will be their wardrobes, accessories and books highlighting this period. Click here for more information.
